This notice explains the cookies and similar browser storage used by ChemistryUK on public pages, demonstrations and signed-in account pages. We do not use advertising cookies.
Essential cookies
These support a service you request or protect the site. They do not wait for optional analytics consent.
Necessary and preference browser storage
ChemistryUK may use local or session storage on your device to preserve an unfinished answer or chemistry diagram, remember a drawing or layout preference, or avoid repeating a one-session interface message. Draft work stays in that browser until it is submitted, cleared by the product or removed through browser controls. This storage is not sent to Google Analytics.
Optional Google Analytics
Optional analytics are off until you choose Allow analytics. If enabled, Google Analytics is used only on eligible public pages to help us understand which pages and demonstrations are useful. It may set cookies such as _ga and _ga_* for up to two years.
ChemistryUK disables Google Signals and advertising personalisation. We do not send account IDs, names, email addresses, answers, diagrams, hints or marking feedback to Google Analytics. Choosing Keep analytics off, including after previously allowing it, disables analytics and removes accessible Google Analytics cookies for this site.
Authenticated service activity
When someone signs in, ChemistryUK records limited account-service activity in its own database so the service can operate, be secured and be improved. Page-view records contain the account ID, course context and a normalised route, not the account email, teacher code, answer text or diagram. Public and anonymous guest page views are excluded. These short-lived records are scheduled for deletion after 14 days.
This account-service record is separate from optional Google Analytics and does not depend on the analytics cookie choice. Security records for login attempts are also kept separately for a limited period. See the Privacy Notice for the wider purposes, lawful bases and rights.
Stripe pages
If you continue to Stripe Checkout or the Stripe Customer Portal, Stripe hosts that page and may use cookies necessary for payment, fraud prevention and security under Stripe's Privacy Policy. ChemistryUK does not receive full card details.
