ChemistryUK Privacy Notice
ChemistryUK is operated by Tafren Systems, trading as ChemistryUK. This notice explains how we handle information for visitors, pupils, parents or guardians, school staff and individual subscribers.
Information we use
- Account and contact information, including name, email, account role, age band and course stage.
- School, class, invitation and membership information where a school provides access.
- Practice answers, diagrams, scores, feedback, homework progress and the technical records needed to save and resume work.
- Payer contact, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, invoice status and entitlement history. ChemistryUK does not receive full card details.
- Essential session, security, audit, support and service-diagnostic information.
Why we use it and our lawful bases
We use information to create and secure accounts, provide Chemistry practice, save progress, manage classes and homework, administer subscriptions, respond to requests, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. Depending on the activity, our basis is performance of a contract, legitimate interests in running a safe education service, compliance with law, or consent where the law requires it.
Children and payer privacy
The initial individual service is for pupils aged 16 or over. A 16 or 17 year old must use a parent or guardian as payer. Paying for a membership does not automatically disclose detailed answers, feedback or progress to that payer. School staff can see information within their authorised school and class scope.
Service providers and international transfers
We use providers for hosting, databases, email delivery, payments and selected learning feedback. Stripe processes payment information under its own privacy notice. Where a practice tool uses an AI provider, ChemistryUK sends the learning material needed for feedback while removing direct account identifiers; MCQs are marked deterministically without an AI model.
Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. We assess provider terms and use recognised safeguards where required. Contact us if you want information about safeguards relevant to your data.
Retention
Anonymous demonstration attempts are scheduled to expire after seven days. Account and learning records are retained while needed to provide the service and for the documented operational period after closure. We may retain limited financial, security and audit records where required for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, dispute handling or legal claims. A deletion request does not require us to erase records that the law requires us to keep.
Your choices and rights
You can correct core account information, download a copy of core account and learning data, and request account deletion from the pupil account area. You may also ask about access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability where those rights apply. You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or another competent supervisory authority.
Cookies and similar browser storage
Essential cookies keep sessions secure and remember required service state. Browser storage may preserve an unfinished answer, diagram or interface preference on the device. Optional Google Analytics is limited to eligible public pages and remains off unless enabled with the required choice; it does not receive account IDs or learning content.
Authenticated service activity is recorded separately in ChemistryUK's own database using an account ID and normalised route, without the account email, teacher code, answer or diagram. Public and anonymous guest page views are excluded and the short-lived page records are scheduled for deletion after 14 days. See the Cookie Notice and settings.
We use access controls, tenant scoping, hashed credentials, audit records and signed payment webhooks, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
